Module 2: Elections
Congratulations on completing Module 1: Defining Democracy! The second phase of the course takes you through a very exciting aspect of Canadian citizenship: provincial and federal elections. You will experience the process of campaigning and voting in both regional and national contexts as a means of preparing you for your future role as Premier and/or Prime Minister!

Task

Description
Spectrum survey
This is a survey of your place on the political spectrum. Complete the survey, and have your family do the same. Compare your place on the spectrum with your family in your Citizen's Handbook (1 paragraph).

Past federal elections
This is a two-part task each about a half-hour in length. The first is an animated video lesson on the provincial election process. You will learn about Ontario's electoral system "first past the post" and respond to questions in your Citizen's Handbook.
The second is a glance at past federal election results. Take a look at the interactive maps, and answer the questions in your Handbook.
Federal parties
A research assignment of the federal parties in Canada. You will examine each of their platforms as a way of gaining a better sense of your personal beliefs for the next assignment: designing your own political party.
Mock election campaign
This is a group assignment whereby you and your assigned partners will create a political party, pitch your ideas to others, and hope for the best in an election.
